Cuckoo flower have ferny leaves with pale pink flowers from March to May and grow up to 40cm tall. As a native Irish wildflower, the cuckoo flower can be seen growing in wet fields around the country, but would grow great planted in drifts on pond edges or damp woodland in a wild garden. It attracts a range of insects and is the main food source for the orange tip butterfly.

Cardamine pratensis thrives in damp, sunny/partly shaded spots, which makes it a perfect companion for meadow and moist woodland species. Companion plants include Silene flos-cuculi (Ragged-Robin), Calthra palustris (Marsh Marigold), Fritillaria meleagris (Snakeshead Fritillary) Primula veris (Cowslip) and Ajuga reptans (Bugle). 

This plant likes a moist, well-drained soil in partial shade.
