Lythrum salicaria

€6.00

Purple-loosestrife is a native Irish perennial also known as Créachtach. This beautiful plant grows to 120cm with spikes of multiple layers of carmine-pink flowers, held in whorls, like a candelabra, from June to September. The flowers are loved by bees and other insects.

In its native habitat, it grows in ditches, riverbanks and along canals. In the garden it likes moist soil in the sun, making it a great plant for the edge of a pond or stream.

Lythrum salicaria thrives in full sun, pairing best with other water-loving plants that provide contrasting textures and shapes, such as Astilbe, Crocosmia 'Lucifer', Filipendula rubra, and Monarda (Bee Balm).
