Mugwort is a native Irish herbaceous perennial also known as Mongach meisce. It is an upright plant growing to 120cm with aromatic, deeply lobed, deep green leaves. The red-brown, flowers appear from June to August and held in leafy flowerheads. It is traditionally used as a medicinal plant used in tea, tinctures and cordial but has very bitter leaves.
Mugwort grows best in well-drained soil in full sun.
