A native Irish plant, Betony, also known as Lus beatha is a hairy perennial with a rosette at its base and upright square stems. Whorls of pink flowers appear from July to August in dense spikes to 30cm. A rare protected species rarely seen in the wild in Ireland.

Its native habitat is grassy banks, woodland edges or hedgerows. It likes to grow in moist, well-drained soil in sun.
