Mountain Avens are a native perennial, evergreen dwarf shrub, growing to only 10cm. Mainly found in the Burren, it is also known as Leaithín. The name Dryas refers to its leaves resembling oak leaves. The leaves are found on creeping stems and have silver undersides. Its white flowers, from April to June open with eight long petals and golden stamen. These are followed by silvery, feathery seedheads.
This plant likes to grow in a well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
