Great Wood-rush is a native Irish plant, also known as Giúnach mór. An evergeen, spreading and clump-forming grass with flat leaves edged with silky hairs. Growing to 80cm, the straw-coloured flowers are held on arching stems from May to June.
In its native habitat Great Wood-rush grows in damp, peaty soil in shade or partial shade and that’s exactly what it would like in the garden too.
