Common mallow is a native Irish wildflower (or possibly introduced and now naturalised), also known as Lus na meall Muire. Growing to 100cm, this upright perennial has open, violet flowers which are streaked with darker lines leading to the centre. The flowers are grouped on the main stems in clusters, from June to September. The leaves are rounded near the base of the plant and become more lobed further up the stem.
This plant likes a moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. A great plant to grow towards the back of a border.
