Pennyroyal is a native (to some parts) Irish perennial also known as Borógach. This plant in the mint family grows up to 20cm tall and has small lilac flowers which gather around the stems in a cluster. Its stout, creeping stems hold dark green leaves which have a strong peppermint scent to them. The flowers can be seen from June to August.

This plant likes a damp soil in sun. It is perfect for edging a stream or pond, making a great alternative to a lawn in damp areas, where the lovely scent is also an added bonus.
