Mentha pulegium

€6.00

Pennyroyal is a native (to some parts) Irish perennial also known as Borógach. This plant in the mint family grows up to 20cm tall and has small lilac flowers which gather around the stems in a cluster. Its stout, creeping stems hold dark green leaves which have a strong peppermint scent to them. The flowers can be seen from June to August.

Mentha pulegium (Pennyroyal) is an excellent companion plant for repelling pests like aphids, cabbage flies, and shield bugs. Because it is a low-growing, spreading, and sometimes invasive perennial, it is best planted in pots near crops or in the garden to prevent it from taking over. It is commonly paired with cabbage, tomatoes and broccoli to deter insects.

This plant likes a damp soil in sun. It is perfect for edging a stream or pond, making a great alternative to a lawn in damp areas, where the lovely scent is also an added bonus.
